The ancient bed of the Qu'Appelle River runs roughly southeast across the province of Saskatchewan.  The Qu'Appelle Valley has several distinct microclimates, with very different vegetation growing on the southern facing slopes than on the north-facing ones.  Frequently you can find huge boulders dropped by retreating glaciers, as shown in the foreground of this shot.
