At Ouimet Canyon in Northern Ontario, the scenery is spectacular. A
gorge cuts through the landscape like a slash from a giant
scimitar. Between the parking lot and the
lookout there is a lesser gorge which is spanned
by this suspension bridge, built to convey tourists to the
main attraction - the canyon.
I found
the graphic design of the bridge irresistible, and setting
up my tripod, waited until there were no people around so I
could take the shot. The temptation was strong to set
it up exactly symmetrically, but I felt it would be more dynamic
if it were just slightly off-centre, so as to create a sense
of tension in the viewer. When I see it now, I keep wanting
to pull the camera back to the middle of the bridge, so I guess
it worked.
